BASF, Bayer's pesticide sales fell in 2016

Despite the substantial increase in BASF sales in the fourth quarter of last year, the company's sales in 2016 fell 4.3% year-on-year due to the decline in the first three quarters. Three categories of products, the largest decline in pesticide market, followed by fungicides, while herbicides rose slightly. After the shift, the market position of herbicides has been improved, and the advantage of the fungicide is weakening.

BASF expects the market for plant protection products to grow steadily in 2017. The company will give full play to market growth potential by investing in innovative products, developing emerging markets (especially in Asian markets) and strengthening customer focus. BASF plans to increase sales in 2017, a substantial increase in sales level. However, due to the market environment is still challenging, profit growth continues to pressure, BASF expects its 2017 excluding special projects EBIT slightly higher.

In 2016, Bayer CropScience's pesticide sales of 7.96 billion euros, down 3.7% (- 1.5%). Among them, pesticide and herbicide sales fell year on year, while the sales of fungicides and seed treatment agent rose slightly.

Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto has progressed well and has filed an antitrust review application with government departments in more than 20 countries in about 30 countries. The EU application program will start in the second quarter of this year.
Bayer CropScience expects its sales to exceed 10 billion euros in 2017, a year-on-year percentage growth (after adjusting for both the exchange rate and the portfolio). EBITDA, which is not included in the special project, is expected to be flat year on year.
